Does anyone have a recipe for frosting a wedding cake without using fondant? But still looks smooth!?

it takes a lot of practice to ice a wedding cake with buttercream and have it look super smooth. my best advice is to buy a plastic bowl scraper (available at a kitchen store...usually very cheap...like less than a buck) get ur cake as smooth as possible with a spatula, then to finish it, dip the scraper in hot water and run it around the outside of ur cake. it should help smooth everything out. good luckDoes anyone have a recipe for frosting a wedding cake without using fondant? But still looks smooth!?
There is a way to smooth buttercream to appear like fondant. The bakery that is doing my wedding cake offers it. It's called ';Satin Sided Buttercream.';
