You frost your cake with a thin layer of buttercream and then put the fondant on top of it.

Fondant like icing,goes on smoothly and gives a cake a more professional, seamless appearance and since its like icing you dont add icing on top fondant tastes way better than icing icing is way to sweet the taste of fondant is just the right amount of sweet with a marshmallow texture
